EUGENE—For Claire Thomas, a state title in the long jump was expected. But for fellow Molalla senior Zach Farner, it took huge personal record to win the state title in the shot put on the first day of the OSAA 4A State Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field Friday.

EUGENE—For a while Thursday, it looked as if the rain was going to hold off despite the misty gray skies hovering over Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, site of the 3A State Track and Field Meet.

Molalla senior tennis players Myranda Bradsaw and Talyn Streight beat Savannah Spear and Haley Carlson of Sisters 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the 1A/2A/3A/4A State Tennis tournament in Eugene Friday, but fell to Jesse Vezo and Vanessa Matheson of Henley 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals to get eliminated from the tournament.
