Letters to the editor are a great way to share news

In a world where you can get your news instantaneously and can comment on the internet anonymously, there is still something about a good old fashion letter to the editor that is an integral part of the way we interact with each other.
Whether you are passionate about an issue or would like to publicly praise someone, a letter to the editor is a great way to share and communicate with the community.
For example, there are a number of local topics that you could write about: Foothills Community Church and the Senior Center, TEAM Molalla’s economic development meeting, new businesses in town, and much more.
Even though sharing ideas through social media are important and viable ways to express your opinion, writing through the Molalla Pioneer is still the best way to reach a broader audience. Take a look at our editorial policies below and put that pen to paper (or, preferably, finger to keyboard).
Keep in mind that our editorial deadline for letters to the editor is every Friday at noon, so if you have a pressing topic that you would like in the next edition of the Pioneer, make sure to get it in as soon as possible.
Here are a few tips for your letters:
• Make sure you have thoroughly researched your topic
• If you are responding to another letter, please make that clear
• Remember, it’s better to say something powerful in a short letter than go on and on about a topic with a message that’s hard to decipher (there is a reason people write “tl;dr” on the internet)
Happy writing! Don’t forget to spell-check!
